Datally is a free application which was introduced by Google in November. Its aim is to help users understand and control the data usage of various applications from the device.
The company upgraded the app today, adding four new and interesting features. Those features are Guest Mode, Daily Limit, WiFi Map and Unused Apps.
- Guest Mode: The user can activate this particular mode to limit how much data someone borrowing your phone can use (i.e. your kid)
- Daily Limit: which lets you set quotas on how much data you can use each day. ’s supposed to help you conserve data over time so that you don’t run out before the end of a cycle. When the user reaches that limit, he will be notified if he wants to block the data usage
- Unused Apps: It is one of the most important features, as it blocks those apps you’ve stopped using but could still be leaking data. This could have a positive impact for apps that you forget to deactivate, but you realise that will cause issues in apps such as Gmail.
- WiFi Map: this feature shows all the nearby Wi-Fi networks so you can find those with a good signal and stop using your mobile data. This will potentially save a lot of data by simply informing the user about available WiFi networks.
