Another world cup will happen in 2019, not the football world cup that starts tomorrow, but a Fortnite! Epic Games has set some very high standards for the future of the game, as it made clear that many events and tournaments will take place within the next year.
The company said that it will use around $100 million for esports investments, such as sponsoring and promotion of the many different events but it will also provide a prize pool for the winners of the tournaments.
If you want to participate in the world cup, you will need to qualify through the qualifiers that begin in Fall 2018, where you will compete against many other players to secure your place to the world cup final. Thus, anyone can participate, as long as you have the required skill set to compete since the tournament will be very competitive and demanding. Yet, Epic Games announced that ,unlike some other competitions, it will not sell teams or franchises to third parties, giving everyone a fair chance of qualifying.
This move aims to attract even more people to the game, especially with famous streamers that are going to compete such as Ninja and Myth, both of whom have 10 million followers combined. It is worth mentioning that Fortnite has around 125 million users, making it the world’s biggest and most popular game.
Fortnite will also be released in Nintendo Switch as the company announced in E3 on Tuesday. However, we do not have a specific date for the Fortnite world cup yet.
