Facebook announced that it will restrict ads containing weapons or even weapon accessories, such as holsters and belt accessories, to underage people. Yet, this restriction does not permanently prohibit the promotion of these.
Starting from June 21st, advertisers promoting weapon accessories must restrict their audience to at least 18 years of age and over.
Unlike posts from friends or Pages, ads receive paid distribution and thus it is extremely important to restrict showing ads containing violent material to underage people.
Note, that the platform has already prohibited the sale of weapons and ammunition since 2014. Still, due to some disastrous events, including school shootings (Santa Fe, Parkland), have led the company into taking different policies concerning violent content.
Just a reminder that Google took a similar approach last March by banning videos that promote the sale of guns and accessories on YouTube, leading to many vloggers involved with guns going to….Pornhub.
